My goodness! I've felt a little pressure to come up with some good April Fool's Day pranks this year. I guess I set my bar high in years' past. As usual, there was much anticipation and research into this year's antics. The kids picked teams this year. Mallory designated herself to be on my team. The boys joined forces. And Elizabeth did her own research and ran her ideas by Edward. Edward and i teamed up as well. Here's a quick recap:
The boys filled Edward's pillowcase with shaving cream.
They set an alarm clock for 5:30 am and hid it in our room, but Edward found it before we went to bed.
Last night while the kids slept Edward and I painted the boys' fingernails a sparkly pink.
We put flower clips in their hair.
I sewed Ross' blanket to him as he slept.
I sewed Drew to his sheets.
I sewed a stuffed animal to Elizabeth's pajamas.
We used mascara to draw eyebrows, a mustache, and beard on Mallory.
I tried to get Elizabeth, but she started stirring.
I went to the basement to get a bunch of Christmas decorations to gussy up the girls' room, but by the time I came back upstairs she had locked the door. This was at 1:30 am.
Edward filled a urine collection cup with yellow food-colored water and left it in the boys room. Drew was grossed out by that one.
Edward taped down the sprayer on the sink.
I filled an empty toothpaste tube with mustard, but everyone figured that one out before using it.
I put drops of food coloring on everyone's toothbrushes.
Elizabeth poured some fingernail polish on waxed paper and let it dry out. She put it with the emptied jar and brush on Ross' clothes to look like a spill.
Hmm. I think that was it. It's been a pretty busy day here with much laughter.

Crazy Things I've Heard This Week
*We should use these handcuffs on Christmas Eve to handcuff us to the bed so we won't be tempted to get up and spy on Santa. (Mallory)
*Do you think it's warm enough for the Slip 'N Slide? (Drew, said on a sixty degree February day)
*I wish it wasn't a rule that you couldn't invite yourself over to peoples' houses. (Mallory)
*Haha! That dog looks like chicken. Can you make chicken that looks like that sometime?". (Mallory)
*Me: Mallory, you're going to be a great mommy.
Mallory: I know. I'm already the greatest kid. If I'm already the greatest kid I know I will be the greatest mom.
*I'm more excited than when Taylor Lautner took his shirt off! (Elizabeth, upon learning we will all being going to San Fransisco this summer)
(This next one is my favorite. This is a text I got from Ross when he was babysitting his siblings.)
*I think drew is goth he is being nagative about everything!. >:-( >:-(. Very frustrated!!! Things r hectic. We just put in a movie. So things r a litle settled down here, but still very frustrated!!!>:-( >:-( >:-(

Crazy Things I've Heard This Week
*She sings like a midget. (Drew)
*You taste like mud, Lucy. (Drew)
*Me: You're not trying to trap her (Lucy) in there, are you?
Drew (Being a pest): No. I'm her bodyguard. I'm doing this for her own good.
*Me: Heehee. That's a funny sign. (While on a walk in the neighborhood, someone had a sign in his yard that read, "Please don't let your dog wee wee in the plants. It kills them.")
Drew: (Pretending to unbutton his pants) It doesn't say anything about your children.
*The chicken at my school is sick! It's made out of pigeon! (Elizabeth - completely serious)
*So The Beatles were more famous than I'm With The Band? (Mallory)

Carmel Dipping Sauce And Politics
We rarely do fast food. Today Elizabeth talked me into cashing in some coupons she has earned at school. As we pulled apple dippers out of the bag, Drew asked for the carmel sauce. I informed him McDonalds no longer had the carmel dipping sauce. There was much dismay and disgust. He demanded to know why. I said I didn't know but suggested it could have something to do with the First Lady's desire to help us eat healthier. Drew immediately declared, "That's one of the main reasons I don't want President Obama to be re-elected. His wife is tacky."

They're On To Me
After twelve years of parenting I've figured out why I have naughty little children. Much too often I CAN'T HELP LAUGHING WHEN I SHOULD BE DISCIPLINING!
Case in point: Mallory got in trouble and we had to make good on a threat to send her to bed early. An hour after she was sent to bed, I walked around the corner to find her sitting on the stairs playing with her doll. I stopped in my tracks and gave her The Look. She immediately replied with a straight face, "I can explain it all." She proceeded to concentrate really hard and was deep in thought for about ten seconds. She then responded, "Actually I can't. It's too hard to explain." I had to stifle my giggles behind Lucy's little head, but Mallory was on to me and broke out in a laugh herself.
My kids are smart! They've figured out that all they need to do is say something witty or clever and I lose it.

Crazy Things I've Heard This Week
*Do poor people use socks instead of napkins? (Drew)
*I'm gonna name one of my kids Cute Face if they have a cute face. (Mallory)
*Mom, you look like a penguin with swagger! (Elizabeth, embarrassed as I showed her some of my dance moves)
*Lizzie! You're getting into my darkness! (Mallory, said as Elizabeth blocked the light as she was crafting)
*Me: Mallory, why are you wearing two pair of underwear?
Mallory: In case we have a fire and the other ones fall off.
~Everything I've ever posted from Mallory, she has said seriously. She has never said any of these things to try to get a laugh, unlike some of the other kids. That makes what she says even funnier to me!
